Psychiatric sociology
Head: PD Dr. A. Möller-Leimkühler
Psychiatry assumes that multifactorial models underlie the development of psychiatric disorders. This means that different, complementary approaches to such disorders are required to do justice to their biological, psychological and sociological facets.
Sociological theories and methods are used extensively in problems in psychiatry: They are applied not only to psychosocial aspects of predisposition, manifestation, course and outcome of psychiatric disorders but also to aspects of the system of treatment and science in psychiatry and of the way that society deals with mental illness.
